Really, anyone who has read even one CP book can know what to expect here: lots of graphic bodily processes being described in detail, pulpy writing full of short sentences and colloquialisms, and some interesting commentary on one or another aspect of pop (and even just reg'lar) culture. This one is all about sex, with the plot hinging around a female porn star who sets out to break the world-record for number of consecutive sex-acts committed in one, um, sitting. Or lying down, or kneeling, or leaning over to the left and balancing on two or three large, bulging oh my look at the time. Anyway, it was a quick, fun read, filled with all kinds of fun trivia about random subjects like what certain stars did to keep themselves looking a certain way (for instance, that Marilyn Monroe chopped a bit off one of her shoe's heels so that, when she walked, her "ass would really grind". Betcha didn't know that.)...I would recommend it simply for some of Palahniuk's ingenious pornizations of some well-known movie titles, faves of mine being "The Gropes of Wrath" and "Chitty Chitty Gang Bang". This book is an excellent first foray into the realm of Chuck Palahniuk. His mind is twisted, his wit sharp and his writing extremely entertaining and interesting. This is the acclaimed author of "Fight Club", a movie many people, like me, watched in abject horror and loved. While the title (and the cover!) is controversial, the book is actually NOT about what the title implies. Obviously, the author relishes a kind of in-your-face style, but it is all part of the appeal of his taut, forceful prose.   hide

Very good. Fight Club is better, yet very funny. I love the porn titles.

Not Chuck's best, but an interesting premise none the less.
