more This author nun, founder of the Eternal Word TV Network, presents Bible lessons, then probes and challenges the reader to take an inventory of their own spiritual goods in an entertaining manner. She also gives tips on how to read the Bible and, with some humor, understand it. (Of Abraham and Sarah she says: “He’s ninety-nine. You can imagine what his wife looked like. Not too much sex appeal...” Hah! I liked her descriptions and explanations.
“Now unless we overcome that totally (that we sometimes dislike people and need to be transparent with our nightly assessments to the Lord) and really love everybody, we’re going to spend some time in purgatory. Saint Paul brings out this point beautifully: YOU ARE GOD’S CHOSEN RACE, HIS SAINTS; HE LOVES YOU, AND YOU SHOULD BE CLOTHED IN SINCERE COMPASSION, IN KINDNESS AND HUMILITY, GENTLENESS AND PATIENCE (Col 3:12)
Paul goes on: BEAR WITH ONE ANOTHER; FORGIVE EACH OTHER AS SOON AS A QUARREL BEGINS, because, he says, THE LORD HAS FORGIVEN YOU, NOW YOU MUST DO THE SAME. OVER ALL THESE CLOTHES, TO KEEP THEM TOGETHER AND COMPLETE THEM, PUT ON LOVE. (Col 3:14)
She says that these paragraphs are awesome because they tell you who you are, what you are, and then it tells you how to change it. AND MAY THE PEACE OF JESUS REIGN IN YOUR HEARTS... “That’s another little examination of conscience :Does the peace of Jesus reign in your heart?, she asks. You’ve got to be what God wants you to be. Teach each other, advise each other, instead of chit-chatting about incidentals, faults and weaknesses. With gratitude in your heart, sing it out loud.”
The book ends with an example about being honest in your nightly assessments, “Lord, I thank you that I didn’t sock Frank right in the kisser. I felt like it, but I didn't do it, and I thank You for that grace. I thank You for the chance to go on for another hour and maintain my composure, because I was so tired today. I thank You for that.”
