I enjoyed this. Very interesting description of the life of Chinese migrants and understanding the migrant workers think.

Really interesting except for when she drones on and on about her family's history, which was only marginally relevant to the book.

If you have ever wondered about the lives of the people who manufacture all the stuff you buy at Walmart, this book is for you! Despite leading what seems like an incredibly dreary and hard life, the young women assembly line workers do not feel sorry for themselves. Instead, they show remarkable ambition and courage, struggling to get ahead in a rapidly changing China. Excellent book!

The author, despite making a few inaccurate generalizations, does a good job empathizing with her subjects and makes plain their internal struggles.

I found it very interesting that due to the experiences these migrants endure while working in the cities, they are becoming a more individualist society. As a student of history, I find that it reminds me of the rise of the concept of the individual in...more

This book is an eye-opener, both in the ways you'd expect and the exact opposite. Definitely makes you pause at the words "Made in China."
