I absolutely loved The Shadow of the Wind, and I couldn't believe that Zafon could write another novel that was as good. I was right. It wasn't as good - it was even better! He recreates early 20th century Barcelona superbly. His characters are strange and yet believable. As his story unwinds, you don't want it to end. I loved every word.

A true gothic story. Not usually my thing but very well written. A little mystery, a little supernatural, a little romance.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed Shadow of the wind....I could never fully get into this one and I am not really sure exactly what this book was about. I did finish it, but only to see if I could. Not worth the read...
