I would have to read this collection again to be able to give it a proper review, but I do remember thoroughly enjoying it. At least worth the time to try a couple of the stories within.

The end of the war, The Good doctor and The volunteer are very good stories. And The principle of pain is really disturbing. But to me the rest wasn't really interesting, so the overall feeling is that the book fails as a whole, although being very cohesive in what refers to a general common topic.

This is a haunting book of short stories with a common thread of mental or emotional trauma. To date this is my favorite collection of short stories. Well written, with realistic situations and fleshed-out, sympathetic characters.

An engaging story teller who is more concerned with cohesive narrative than pompous display of style, a rarity among contemporary short story writers. Refreshing, to say the least.

This is my favorite collection of short stories EVER. This man is an amazing author...what a powerhouse. Many of the stories address quite intense issues (e.g. depression) and get to the essence of what it feels like to live that life. I totally bow down to this author. Great to read for the stories and the craft of writing.
