Excellent story from a leading scholar of religion. I especially appreciated her description of how her religious life expanded from her interfaith contacts.

Highly resonant, uncanny how many parallels i found with my own life: delusions of a religious vocation; no clear career path but happening upon an idiosyncratic niche; inability to sustain relationships and resignation to a solitary life. But i'm not alone, there's Karen Armstrong.

I thought this was great. Couldn't put it down--her life story seems like it would be boring on the outside but the way she narrates draws you into it. We can all relate to what she is going through with regards our own relationship "with the cosmos" so to speak.

A fascinating spiritual journey and evolution story of a powerful mind, but I especially appreciated how well she articulates acute episodes of mental illness and the struggle to have it adequately named and treated.

I really enjoyed this story. From a historical standpoint, it's interesting to view the 60's from the angle of someone who was removed from the mainstream of society. I can definitely relate to her battle; intellect vs faith. Definitely worth the read.

An interesting look at the 1960s from the viewpoint of a woman who was sheltered from all societal progress for the several years prior. The story also traces her faith from Catholicsm to atheism to an embracing of all the major world religions as being equally viable. Whether you agree or disagree with her conclusion, it's a thought provoking story on a number of levels.

This book is more horrific than a Stephen King novel. Hands down one of the most horrific stories I've ever read. An example of how ideology can be psychologically crippling.
