At Home in the Heart of Appalachia

coming back from West Virginia, and reading the book, has given me a greater appreciation to people of the south.

O'Brien paints a realistic view of the struggles of Appalachian-Americans. The flaws in education, the fatalism of the people, the poverty, the radically off balanced distribution of wealth and power. One can feel the frustration in his writing. I would recommend this to anyone from Appalachia or to anyone who wanted to learn more about modern Appalachian culture.
