The consequences of media saturation are the basis for an urban nightmare in Lullaby, Chuck Palahniuk's darkly comic and often dazzling thriller. ...more

i enjoyed it, a great story regarding the worth of life and death as well as issues of power. but i think that's trying to be a little too profound for what, in the end, was an interesting story about a rag-tag family trying to end sudden infant death syndrome. i suppose DREW CASPER would analyze the story as a fairy tale...more

my first Palaniuk book and i was not disappointed. i'm a fan of the fight club movie and many random lines would have felt right at home there. didn't end the way i expected until very late in the book, which is a good thing. some books i feel my IQ raise or lower, but i felt right at home here. i would recommend this book to anyone who was already a fan of the writer's voice.

A bit overrated. After Fight Club you expect the same quality from all his books.

Chuck's whimsy really started to wear thin on me with Lullaby--his trendy nihilism just gets tiring after a few books. There are some scenes in here that might play out neat visually, but the themes and symbols are so tangential that Lullaby as a whole, like his previous work, comes off very contrived. And desperately graphic. The gore seems comically out of place most of the time.

Having never read “The Fight Club” and only experiencing Chuck Palahniuk through a movie, I didn’t know what to expect of this book. The books is fast going, and explores the possibility of ultimate power. What can ultimate power do to different personalities and how it will affect them. In the case of Helen Hoover Boyle, a strong minded, strong willed woman, the power over took her not...more

One of Palahniuk's better novels, although I only read three. See my review for Choke. It'll explain why I stopped reading him altogether. Besides the fact that all his stories have the same pattern, it wasn't graphically overloaded. One might ask, how can a book have too much much graphics? Isn't the point of writing a novel is to paint a picture in your mind? I'm a fan of grotesque...more

Palahniuk. What more can I say? This book is an exploration of Burrough's idea of the word virus. What happens when certain words hold the power to kill? "In a world where vows are worthless. Where making a pledge means nothing. Where promises are made to be broken, it would be nice to see words come back into power." In our world of talk-oholics and listen-ophobics, a book like this is...more

This book seemed awful for the first couple chapters, but I am glad I did not give up on it. The book grew on me, and the more I read, the more I came to appreciate the author's style. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who likes dark and somewhat twisted writing...

Not recommended for new- or soon-to-be parents. Just trust me, it'll make you paranoid.

Lullaby shares many themes with Palahniuk's more famous novel, Fight Club, such as the impact of the constant barrage of TV, radio, music, advertisements, etc, on our lives. However, Lullaby is much bleaker than Fight Club because it deals with death and the ways in which we cope with it. It's an excellent example of black comedy and is highly recommended to any fan of the genre.
