I love Libba Bray and her Great and Terrible Beauty series, but this one was weird and had a very unsatisfying ending for me. Bray has a quirky sense of humor that I admire, but the fantasy just got way out of hand for 480 pages! Why the Printz Award for this one??

Wow! This book was a great read. The language was sharp and witty, the story (although a little bit slow at the start) is twisted and weird and - despite the fact that the protagonist is dying of Mad Cow disease - his psychedilc last weeks of life adventures take you on a trip that neither the protagonist nor the reader knows where reality starts and ends.

Ok, so this teenager gets mad cow disease, and an angel appears and tells him its all cuz a mad scientist brought dark matter into our universe, and he will be cured if he finds him and saves the world. So, he takes off with his hypochondriac dwarf buddy, and somewhere between meeting a Norse God disguised as a garden gnome and getting involved with the happy bowling cult, things get weird. Just...more

Not a bad book. NOT a MIDDLE SCHOOL book, but not a bad book. Libba Bray continues her tendency to write about flawed but interesting protagonists.

hated it...didn't even finish it and was really upset that I hated it because I begged the publisher practically on my knees for an advanced copy of it.

OK, I know this is a "teen book", but if y'all can read Twilight and Harry Potter, than I can get a pass on this one. Quick, easy read with good characters and a fun (kind of) plot. Although reading about a 16 year-old with a fatal disease shouldn't be funny, this book manages to squeeze in a goodly amount of humor. And besides, who doesn't love a good quest now and again?

A sad, sweet book. Typical but worth the read.

Take one 16 year old, add in a dwarf and a yard gnome, and get ready for the ride. I thought this was really cool, funny and sad at the same time. I almost cried at the end but I was happy to have read it.

If there's anyone who can make you laugh out loud while reading a book about a boy with mad cow disease, it's Libba Bray! Funny, touching, surreal, yet realistic, sort of. Read it !!!

A little weird and outrageous, kind of a stretch at times but the point is there and it's funny. Chock full of sarcasm, which is always a plus for me.
