I love Libba Bray and her Great and Terrible Beauty series, but this one was weird and had a very unsatisfying ending for me. Bray has a quirky sense of humor that I admire, but the fantasy just got way out of hand for 480 pages! Why the Printz Award for this one??

A little ambitious, not the best teen book of 2009, despite winning the Printz, but I liked what she was trying to do.

I suspect this book was written expressly to make the banned book list. I was offended by the language, drugs, sexually explicit situations, homosexuality, anti-family, anti-marriage, and religious viewpoint. Who is on the Printz Award panel, what were they thinking and what is their agenda?

OK, I know this is a "teen book", but if y'all can read Twilight and Harry Potter, than I can get a pass on this one. Quick, easy read with good characters and a fun (kind of) plot. Although reading about a 16 year-old with a fatal disease shouldn't be funny, this book manages to squeeze in a goodly amount of humor. And besides, who doesn't love a good quest now and again?

I love Libba Bray, and I knew this book would not disappoint. Cameron's character was hilarious and lovable. That being said, because Cameron had the human form of Mad Cow Disease, it was hard for me to tell what was real and what was just in his head while reading this book. I'll admit I spent the better part of the book being confused, unfortunately. Does that mean I enjoyed it any less?...more

this one started out really funny and witty--but as Cameron ventures on his quest it gets a little too weird for me--science fiction meets folklore and fantasy-- Nordic gods, quantum physics and other weird stuff-- I think this one is trying to buy into the Harry Potter, Lightening Thief fans, but it rambles on.

Far too long - couldn't finish it although Balder was a highlight.

This is a great book: life and death, religion and Disney World, spring break and yard gnomes. I can hardly see what Libba Bray comes up with next.

I'm not a fan. I was alreday bitter because of The Sweet Far Thing and this book did not succeed in reviving my good graces.
