Her schizophrenic episodes have kept her in and out of various institutions for most of her life. Now, at age 16, Erin's therapist has decided she must re-enter the real world. Public school is a little frightening - lots of kids, larger classes, more stimuli to trigger an outburst. Erin attempts normal teenage activities; making new friends and trying out for the fencing team, but nothing is able to stop her alter-ego from rearing her ugly head. Erin believed that Shevaun had finally disappeared, but now she is back with a vengeance. Erin must find a way to control Shevaun before it's too late. Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has been writing about the paranormal since she was thirteen. Her stories involve vampires, shape-shifters, witches, and magic, and PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY is chock full of all of these elements. The story is fast-paced, which makes it a quick read. Those readers who enjoy the supernatural will definitely want to give this book a try. Also, look for sequels on the horizon. Atwater-Rhodes' final chapter is open-ended, leaving room for future stories about Erin and Shevaun.   hide

Another winner for Atwater-Rhodes! Like paranormal fiction? Like vampires, witches, and shapeshifters? Persistence of Memory by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes is sure to please. Erin is a 16 year old girl diagnosed as schizophrenic. She has spent much of her life in psychiatric hospitals, and wants nothing more than to be a "normal" American teen. Unfortunately, she continues to suffer dissociative episodes despite being heavily medicated. She knows Shevaun as her hated alter ego. Shevaun is an "immortal" vampire. She hates Erin and wants her dead. Her partner, the very powerful witch Adjila, wants to sever the inexplicable tie between Erin and Shevaun, but is worried doing so will cause Shevaun irreparable harm. Sassy, Erin's shapeshifter friend, is trying to convince Erin that she's not psychotic and that Shevaun does exist. They are on a collision course with Adjila and Shevaun, and Sassy knows he's no match for the powerful witch. Once Adjila realizes the truth, however, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is indeed a "thrilling tale of love, loyalty, and illusion" as Erin discovers that "real life is stranger than any delusion you can come up with."   hide

I really loved this look into some of the causes of "mental illness" in Nyeusigrube. The characters are engaging and their problems are very real considering the world they live in. This story is marvelous as expected, at first i was hesistant about reading it but then i just thought to read, any one out there thinking their a bit cocky give this a try, gives sanity and insanity a whole new word. but its really nice njoy if you do read it

Meh, it was okay. More about were-heyenas rather than vampires and it got pretty trippy at some moments. I only really liked Sassy as a character.
