Revolution

Impressive novel that makes the likes of Tale of Two Cities and Les Miserable relevant to the 21st century! Impressive and moving even to old seasoned readers like me! I loved this novel!

This is an awesome book. I listen to it as I drive to work. I cannot wait until I get to drive the car next.

Excellent! I want to learn more about the French Revolution. Donnelly does an excellent job of weaving the contemporary and historical. Well-executed.

Loved this book - one of my favorites for sure. Love the French history connection to a modern teen girl. Heartbreaking and inspirational.

While some aspects of the writing were somehwat clunky or inconsistent--the diary of a young girl living in revolutionary France was a little too contemplative and literary to be genuine--the story was compelling and the characters drew me in as well.

Clever and well written YA novel. A good friend gave this to me, since it involved things I like: The French Revolution and time travel. But it also involves an unhappy but genius teenage girl. Andi is musical, bright and emotionally damaged. She attends a prestigious private high school in Brooklyn, and is the child of a French artist and an American geneticist. But her life is crumbling after the tragic accidental death of her younger beloved brother. Andi is a super talented guitar player who loves all music. Unfortunately, her family has been dealt a terrible blow with the death of her brother, Truman, and her parents are separated. Her mother's sanity is slipping away and Andi is surrounded by spoiled and dysfunctional classmates whom she can't relate to. With no one to talk to (after failed therapy), Andi is on her own, taking prescribed psych drugs by the handful to get through each day. The first page or two of the novel initially put me off--teenage angst--but keep going, this is no Twilight. I really ended up relating to Andi, and finds a connection to the past that she had no idea existed. The novel is beautifully crafted around Dante's Inferno (readers will recognize many references in many of the characters as well) and the research the author did for the novel is extensive and thorough. Not to mention, the novel just has a great storyline. Highly recommend for teens and adults alike. I am definitely checking out her adult novels as well...   hide

Great YA Historical fiction that is also about depression and dealing with a death in the family. Read it in 2 evenings.

A heartbreaking panorama of a book, musically encompassing the sweep of the French Revolution through the eyes and angst of two 2 teenage girls dealing with death and mental illness: one in the present and one in the 18th century. Well-researched and masterfully written by the author of A Northern Light, Jennifer Donnelly.

This is one of the best books that I have read! Jennifer Donnelly entwines fiction with historical truths to create a captivating read! The book is categorized as 'young adult' but don't let that fool you - this is a fantastic read for all age groups!
