Intriguing, mysterious. I was carried along by the novel setting and desire to understand what was going on. A story about a small group of teenage boys, and eventually one girl, who, for whatever reason, find themselves inhabiting a maze of shifting walls and bizarre organo-mechanical beasties. They don't know why they're there or what their purpose is, beyond survival. The protagonist is interesting enough, but the other characters are only marginally so. I was left unsatisfied at the conclusion but look forward to reading the next book in the series.   hide

I really enjoyed this story. It pulled me in right away. The ending was a little violent for my liking, but it also left me wanting more. I cannot wait until the 2nd book comes out.

It's not bad. The main character spends most of the book frustrated. So, guess what? The reader spends most of the book frustrated. It took too long to answer questions.

One of the best books I have read in a long time. Keeps you always wanting more and trying to figure out what will happen next.

An okay read, but Hunger Games is a lot better.

My 15 yo read it and loved it. She told me I had to read it. It was very good and keeps you wondering. Good YA book!

This book is kind of hard to understand at first, but as you progress you catch on and the story becomes fascinating!

Thomas is determined to figure out what is happening in the Glade and unlock the secrets that are buried. THE MAZE RUNNER is the start to a thrilling new trilogy. If you are a fan of dystopian science fiction, then this title needs to be added to your must-read pile. Author James Dashner has a brilliant start to the book; the Gladers use different slang, which takes some time to get used to. However, this leaves the reader feeling just as jarred as Thomas when the book starts and you find yourself learning about the Glade right along with the main character. I've never really had that experience with a book before, so kudos to Mr. Dashner for a brilliant storytelling device. The story has somewhat of a slow start, but readers who stick with it will be rewarded. I'm warning you - there are lots of cliffhangers and heart-stopping adventure, and you'll want to stay up late turning pages to find out what happens next.   hide
