Very interesting and compelling read; criticised for excessive environmental determinism, though I'm not sure that's a fair claim.

You ever think about why the world the way it is? No? S'ok, not many people do, but after you read this book, you won't be able to stop thinking about it. Jared Diamond makes you think and you can tell this man has done his research. Do him the courtesy of giving him the benefit of the doubt.

My husband turned me onto this book. What an incredible read through history and a study of civilizations early development. Diamond stuffs this book with all kinds of interesting facts. Answered many questions such as "Why do the people do that there in that country but not in this one."
