I liked it WAY better than the first book in the series, and now I can't wait to get to the next one.

Remarkably profound novels, sprinkled with insightful commentaries upon a range of situations that occur in life

Another victory for P.O'B no other writer captures historic novels like he can.

This was even better than Master & Commander I think. Lots of great humor and character development. A couple of my favorite moments: when Maturin comes aboard in his woollen onesie and compares the frigate to an east indiaman; the incredibly unlikely escape from France by Aubrey and Maturin, using a bear suit as a disguise!

Patrick O'Brian is simply the best. Wow.

Is good by the end, but the first half is painfully slow. Still, historicity seems pretty good, and the character development keeps the reader interested.

Second volume in the series does all these neat things for Jane Austen readers. Oh, Diana and the textile with the tigers on it! She's wonderful here.
