A excellent starting point if you are not sure where to park your money. A great introductory book, covering the history of the market, giving a practical investment advice, as well as expanding your financial vocabulary in a natural and non-painful way.

Enjoyable history lesson. Uses statistics to debunk investing myths. In my opinion, an essential read for all investors. I still don't believe in EMH though.

A classic in long-term personal investing, and a an especially good read for someone interested in some of the big historical trends in the equities markets. Too verbose though: he spends too much time on trying to disprove technical analysis and other non-fundamental techniques (which leaves you wondering... what in the world are all those bankers and hedge funds doing). It's a great book on the subject. I took a class in Financial Economics and a lot of concepts were explained far better and more clearly in this book than in lecture notes. The second part is a bit more practical and sometimes it feels like a completely different book; nevertheless Malkiel sets a very compelling case for careful long-term investment rather than short term gambling.

I author hails from academia and takes on all the brokers, traders, and salesmen out there. This was the first book on securities/investing I had read and it was a smooth read. There were a few boring parts, funny historical anecdotes, and plenty of data and references to back his claims. The essential thesis is the Efficient Market Theory. At one point he cites the failure of hedgefund...more

I used to think this book was great but as i learned about investing, I learned that it's very misleading and while the book has some useful information, I'm not as big of a fan of it as a I used to be. Investing is much more complicated than Malkiel makes it out to be. Great book that basically says trying to beat the market is like trying to win at the casinos.
