Wow. Diabolical, intricate, beautiful. I think very few Westerners delve as deeply into Japanese literature as they should. We miss so much! Most of the works I have read reflect the same precision and simple, stark beauty of all Japanese art. Think of a Hokusai print, or a No drama, or the clean lines of a bonsai tree. The literature is as elegant.
