The writing is fairly inconvincing(the main three characters don't feel like actual men, but stereotypes), the premise improabable, and the ideology behind it is one I completely reject(that men are the source of all ills.) That said, the ideas it forces you to consider are some interesting ones so I'm not sure it was a bad assignment.

Their religion being based around a universal love rather than the fear of hellfire and brimstone as well as their educational system being one that is pervasive throughout their society are the two main things of value.
It seemed to me to be basically saying that if it not for men the world would be perfect. My disagreement with the sentiment may be rooted in my maleness, but I frankly find it sexist, though I can understand why the author would have come to that conclusion given how overtly oppressive society was towards women at the time.
