more I received this book as a gift from a dear someone who realizes my passion for mythology and folklore. I have read several books of Norse myths and felt pretty secure in my knowledge of the stories. However, this collection is by far the best and most thorough I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
Crossley-Holland is brilliant in his knowledge and study of Norse mythology. He has gleaned through various sources in order to bring forth these stories and acknowledges all of it in an extremely handy and interesting section of notes which provide just as much pleasure and enjoyment as the actual myths.
A wide variety of stories are provided, more than just the usual and most classic, which expands on the meaning and charm of the stories. The writing is beautiful for these retellings, and Crossley-Holland often keeps original wording.
All in all, this is a wonderful testament of some truly timeless tales.
