Shadow in the North (Sally Lockhart Trilogy, Book 2)

Similar to the preceding book The Ruby in the Smoke in that it's an engaging, easy to read story. Better in that it has a philosophical moment. Worse in that a good guy deliberately kills a bad guy, which bothers me morally. In the previous book, the killing done by good guys was a little more forgivable because it was more self defense.

Second in the Sally Lockhart series. These are not usually the types of books that I read, but I loved the other Philip Pullman series and found this a quick and engaging read. This was where the issues of political and social injustice start to appear, along with the questionable ethics of lending one's craft to an evil purpose.

Good fun - for adults and kids. Much much better than the terrible tv adaptation with Billie Pipper...that was dreadful. Wish they had kids books like this when I was a kid. Tv adaptation doesn't do it justice.

Sad ending, but it was great.
