Excellent mystery/ adventure with some of the most suspenseful writing you'll find. I'm not a Pullman fan as I think he got a bit high and mighty with the His Dark Materials trilogy, but the Sally Lockheart trilogy is writing at its best. Great choice for those trying to get your kids to read or those looking for something historical to use in class.   hide

Interesting story, I liked his vision of Victorian London. Wasn't so sure about Sally Lockhart; I much prefer her friends Jim and Rosa. In my opinion not as good as His Dark Materials but still worth a look. Am interested in seeing what happens in the other books.   hide
