The Ruby in the Smoke (Sally Lockhart Trilogy, Book 1)

Excellent mystery/ adventure with some of the most suspenseful writing you'll find. I'm not a Pullman fan as I think he got a bit high and mighty with the His Dark Materials trilogy, but the Sally Lockheart trilogy is writing at its best. Great choice for those trying to get your kids to read or those looking for something historical to use in class.

Interesting story, I liked his vision of Victorian London. Wasn't so sure about Sally Lockhart; I much prefer her friends Jim and Rosa. In my opinion not as good as His Dark Materials but still worth a look. Am interested in seeing what happens in the other books.

The agenda of this book is mystery. Which involves murder,killing,and cops etc. About This girl called sally lockhart who's father passed away. And she is left distraught. You've got to read it!

My class is intrigued by this story, but has some difficulty with comprehending the language used in it. It is a wonderful way to teach metaphors and how to make inferences.
