I haven't read The lord of the rings yet and I think it's because after reading The Hobbit I got the feeling the author is trying a bit too hard to "converse" with his readers.

What can I say about the Hobbit? I am reading it to my 10-year-old daughter, who begs me for more each night. It has adventure, comedy, mystery, and something deeper.
