more I know it is unfair to compare authors but in this case I feel justified. I read this book a few days after reading Linda Howard's Cover of Night and I couldn't help but compare the two.
Both books are placed in the wilderness (little towns in Idaho and Wyoming) but NR did a better job of getting the reader to appreciate the beauty of the setting. I had a chance in May to be in both states and Ms. Roberts reminded me again that I actually preferred the landscape of Wyoming and Montana over Idaho and Nevada.
She also did a better job in depicting more realistic and more relatable characters. Oh yes, I prefer a writer-turned handyman to a Marine Special Forces-turned Rambo. And I sympathize with a Cordon Bleu trained chef-turned-cook and recipe writer compared to a Marketing Executive-turned-Baking Whiz.
Actually, to go straight to the point, NR did a better job in all aspects of comparison: the suspense, the mystery, the action and most especially the romance. After all, this is why I buy and read these books. It's for the ROMANCE!!!
