Sam Vimes is captain of the Night Watch (the highly respected constabulary of Ankh Morpork)... or at least he WAS until he got sent back in time while chasing an arch criminal, back to the early days of the Watch, when they were far less respected. Sam has to deal with a less professional workforce, concerns of time lines and to top it all off, teaching his own young self how to be a good night watchman.
