espionage thriller... not much action tho...

Great drama and storyline! Tom Clancy rules!!!

Classic spy thriller weaving the Russian-U.S. "missile defense" race with the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. The Russian characters are as much fun, or moreso, than the Americans.

This is one of the best in the jack ryan series, too bad the cold war is over and they'll never make the movie. Excellent spy novel filled with intrigue and clandestine dealings. It's too bad they will never turn this on into a movie until Russia starts a war with us.

Follows Tom Clancy's normal style. This book has incredible detail, as is a hallmark of all of Clancy's novels. You feel as though you're right there. The technical details are phenomenal. You could pull a defense manual and it would match up. If you're into details of this magnitude, Clancy is for you.

Usual type of CIA/KGB book by Clancy. Though not as intriguing or interesting except in parts.

His greatest work if you really enjoy Cold War era literature

One of his best. Very hard book to put down.
