Across Five Aprils

Great historical fiction about a family in southern Illinois during the Civil War.

The narrative style was not very gripping, although the content was good. It was a good book to get a personal view of the Civil War and how it affected families. Did not like the way the author used literal spelling for the uneducated vernacular of the Creightons. My kids seemed to enjoy it.

This is on the 8th grade approved reading list in Florida. That doesn't mean it isn't worthy of adult reading. It follows a boy whose brothers have all gone off to fight in the Civil War, and his coming of age.

Good book in written in the Civil War era! Easy read

Not one of my favorites. But it cover an important part of history, so it is a good thing to read.

I remember enjoying this when I was younger. Good for young boys who like history.

I had to read this for like 8th grade literature and I hated it. They plant potatoes for 8 chapters...haha!
