Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter)

Thanks to this book, I had the beginning of a great adventure with the Anita Blake series. I've read every one of them, and they are all still on my shelf. I'm excited about the next book and I hope other Dark Fantasy readers pick this book up. You wont regret it.

I am a fan of vampire novels. After reading the Twilight books, the Sookie Stackhouse series,and the House of Night series, a friend of mine told me about the Anita Blake novels so I decided to give it a go. After reading Guilty Pleasures, I still don't feel 100% captivated. It was definitely entertaining. I like the main character-Anita Blake, an animator ( she raises the dead) and a legal vampire executioner. She is small but tough as nails and has a sharp sarcastic sense of humor. There is lots of supernatural elements here (ghouls, zombies, were-animals). In this first book Anita takes down a master vampire and appears to be marked by the replacement, Jean Claude. I am going to continue on in the series as I hear that it gets better.   hide

I found the character to be sarcastic and the story similar to cheap paperback novels my Mom used to read. I bought the whole set but could not make it past the first novel.

This review is for the series mostly...the first 8 books are well written and interesting...after that I wouldn't recommend them to anyone let alone friends. Turns in to how much power can I get if I screw another vampire, werewolf, wereleopard, whatever I come into contact with...the plot lines start to lack definition and the mystery is pretty much non-existent...but the first 8 are...more
