I liked this book a lot as I was reading it, but in hindsight it really isn't one of the better books in the series. It does have a lot of exciting action and a great climax that comes out of nowhere and hits like a punch to the gut, but it's a bit contrived compared to some of the other books in the series. Plus, it features villains who make some classic stupid villain mistakes...more

This was pretty dreadful. I thought Rowling wrote for children, not morons. There were one or two interesting aspects - the contest, the scary followers of Voldemort.. but there were pages and pages of recap which her editor should have ripped out. Also pages and pages of stuff where you read it and thought... what's been happening lately? What has actually happened? The only bit I found...more

so much fun! the first fatty, it definitely proved Rowling could write something so utterly riveting. she perfectly intertwines competition, love, hate, death and fun into one book that makes you realize how serious things will get. plus she also shows how freakin' good she is at planting things early that will pay off later the first fatty, i fell in love with the characters in this. this...more

Hermione's disgust at the reception for the veela (Bulgarian National Team Mascots) at the Quidditch World Cup. Rowling's fourth book addresses issues about growing up--the dynamic between the boys and girls at Hogwarts starts to change. Nowhere is this more plain than the hilarious scene in which magical cheerleaders nearly convince Harry and Ron to jump from the stands to impress them....more

The one thing I loved about this one (though is was not my favorite) was that JK definitely acheived, once again, to keep us on the edge of ours seats. After Voldemort returns, Cedric is killed and Harry sees the reincarnation of his parents-there is MORE suspense and action awaiting back at Hogwarts. Mad-eye is revealed as Barty Crouch Jr, etc. The movie did this book absolutely NO justice, I...more

This is another one of my favorite books in the Harry Potter series. I love how nobody believes Harry and yet, instead of lying, he tells the truth. He didn't put his name in the Goblet of Fire. I thought Voldemort seemed kind of weak though. I mean, he doesn't seem really scary or powerful, for that matter.

Goblet of Fire is the hinge upon which the Harry Potter series turns. Harry seems to come of age in this one, and so does the series. Though it doesn't lose the wonder and fantasy of the earlier installments, Goblet concentrates on maturing the story quite signficantly. Out of all the books (except 7, which I have not read yet), this has the best ending, which is both thrilling and disturbing....more

I really like the book. The storyline that continued throughout the following books started here and the characters finally seemed to grow up. There were more serious issues in this book and I also like the fact that the friendship between Harry, Ron and Hermione was "tested" by Harry's entering of the competition. Some first love themes, that was cute - and I'm usually not so into the romantic...more
