Zen Ties is the sequel to Zen Shorts and just as evocative and gentle.  Stillwater receives as his summer guest his nephew, Koo ("Hi, Koo!") who speaks only in--you guessed it--haiku.  They, and three children who are friends from the first book, explore friendship with a certified Crochety Old Lady.  It's fabulous.

Apparently I'm missing something here.  Or maybe it is because I did get to read the first book.  I just didn't get it.  This was, frankly, a nice-but-rather-dull book with pretty pictures.  I know this is indeed Zen and community focused, but it kind of came off as after-school special quality.

My second favorite childrens' book character, Stillwater the Buddhist Panda, is visited by his nephew, Koo, my new favorite childrens' book character.  I won't spoil your discovery of Koo by describing him any more.
