more This memoir really moved me to tears! It was rich and complex in Adeline's relationship within her family and within the context of the changing cultural times. I felt the pain and tragedy of Adeline's desire to be wanted and loved. She was a child of great strength and depth, but her character was only born out of survival and not from love. She was not valued or appreciated by those she was closest to, and it was very tragic to see how an innocent child was brought into this world and then raised with such neglect and disdain. The story did, however, also have moments of hope and light. It was beautiful in the way it showed how the love of her Aunt Baba and grandfather helped sustain her during some tough times in her life. It's a simple read, written for young adults. It's well worth the read!
