I hate writing bad reviews but sadly this is one of them. It's not that it's a bad story, it could have been great, it was just that I wasn't hooked on it, like I was with other books. I didn't get the "I can't put this book down" feeling, it was ok, it got me through a 7 hour flight, but that was it, I didn't care about any of the characters, when one died, it was more a "oh well" sort of...more

I didn't get the "I can't put this book down" feeling, it was ok, it got me through a 7 hour flight, but that was it, I didn't care about any of the characters, when one died, it was more a "oh well" sort of feeling, rather than, "how could he kill off that character", which is how it should have been.A nice book for children starting to read fantasy, but then move them onto something like The Prydain Chronicles or the lord of the rings to see how it should be done.   hide

I know it's supposed to be young adult reading. But the storytelling is excellent. It's a good read.

A great storey from a young author. Draws the reading into the world quickly making the book difficult to put down. Loved it

Although a gud read, does not seem very interesting because of its striking similarities to LOTR- an underling, who is shouldered with massive responsibility and wanders to faraway lands in order to fulfill his destiny. Sprinkle the characters of dwarves (excellent workmen, sly and untrusting), elves (long life, can do advanced magic, live in hidden land) and urgals (orcs)- it seems highly inspired by its elder cousin LOTR. This book was truley the most exciting book i've ever read in my life.To me it was so good when a caracter died it would make you cry, not oh well, their goes another one.To me this author should get a good award, very good book and so is the other series of the triolige.I recomend this book to anyone who likes adventure ,dragons,combat,magic,fantasy.

pretty good book. i like how detailed he got with the development of his world, Alagaesia. Some of the writing seemed a little forced and less naturally flowing, but overall it was a great read.

This book came highly recommended by a good friend, and now that I've read it, I want to recommend it to everyone else. It's a good, solid fantasy story about a boy. And a dragon. And an evil king, demonic forces, families torn asunder, battles, magic, and all that other good stuff that happens in such a book. And it's quite well-written - something that may come as a surprise when you discover the author was only 15 when he wrote the novel; it holds its own against just about any fantasy novel written by an adult.
