I like fluff books.But this one was just taken too far. There is no real plot. Rebecca Bloomwood is a self absorbed weak excuse for a woman. She can’t think of ANYTHING except shopping. Honest to goodness, she can’t go more than 10 minutes without thinking of herself. As a result, she doesn’t have any friends (unless you can count her flatmate Suzy - someone she couldn’t care less about) not that she cares - friends would distract her from shopping.The novel didn’t even reach a turning point until around page 220, which is more than two-thirds of the way through the book. The previous pages were merely spent going on and on about how much Rebecca loved shopping.Dear Lord - there are people who actually like THIS fluff? At least fluffy romance novels have ROMANCE in them and GOOD THINGS happening in them. For this novel, we have to spend its entirety feeling horrible for poor Becky Bloomwood, save for the last 50 pages where things just FALL IN HER LAP.This novel disgusted me. I’m going to have to choose deeper fluff from now on if I want to give my mind something fun to read.   hide

Wow, I really had high expectations for this book and ended up being so disappointed. I was disappointed at the heroine who never seemed to learn form her mistakes (and judging by the 2nd book, I don't think she will ever). Disappointed at the book because I honestly thought it would be funny, but I ended up wincing and shaking my heard more often than I cracked a smile. I guess the portrayal of a woman here is just bad... easy to give in to impulses, no self control, no remorse, etc. Yeah. The only good thing I got from this book is it probably forced me to look at myself and my own spending, and hope I don't ever go the deep end like Becky did. And the romance? Yeah, that was disappointing, too. We only see Luke interact with Becky for like a few pages and suddenly.. BOOM ROMANCE.    hide

The Shopaholic series is one of the funniest series I have ever had the pleaure of reading! Though Confessions--the first novel in the series--includes many life-altering and depressing themes in it, such as major debt and singlehood, the book pulls off humor with the use of the internal voice for its main character, Becky Bloomwood. I recommend this novel--as well as the entire series--for any woman who knows about credit card debt or the single life. It will definitely change your mind about your finances and your frugality.   hide

This book was mildly amusing at best. I curse the family member who let it fall into my possession. Not only does the "Shopaholic" of the title never (even reasonably attempt) change for the better, she worsens into a bigger self-absorbed cess pool of an idiot. I guess this book is a good read if you have no other worthy books around, or just don't have the time to think about weightier topics. Novels like this are regressing "chick lit" into a tired genre of stereotyped ditzy women. Where potential appeared, the lesser route was taken.    hide
