A great book for layman (such as my self) who would like a introduction to some of Jung's concepts, in particular his ideas regarding the unconscious and the language of symbols it uses to express. He also makes profound associaitions between between the different cultures of the world and the recurrence of parallel mythical themes in their religious development. I have a very early edition of this book (much treasured) and it has helped me un-ravel both myself and people who came into my life. I started reading Jung with this book when I was in High School. I've read many books by and about Jung, but I still think this is the best. I have read many books by or about Jung. This was my first, and it is generally the best. The only one I think that's better is out of print. This reads like your paging through a catalog or encyclopedia of the unconscious.

This book is a wonderful introduction to some of Jung's concepts. It was written by Jung and a few of his students (including Dr. Marie-Louise von Franz, among other notables) as an introduction for the lay-person, and so it lacks the scholarly tone that makes Jung's writings incomprehensible to a great many people.
