Christopher Paul Curtis wrote a very personally influenced story, featuring humorous characterization from people of his Flint past. One of my colleges when to the book signing at Borders Flint; he gave her five free books for her lit circles because she was a teacher, and he has been very supportive of educators since his success.

This book was great! It was down to earth and it was the first book that I literally laughed out loud while reading! I would read it again.

This book deals with some social issues that you don't often see talked about in YA lit. I really like the way that Curtis presents a narrative where money and education don't fix everything.
