more While still a good book, I was a little disappointed by this final installment in the series. I guess it was unavoidable, but still. I thought there was a great build-up to Lyra's great destiny, and then all she did was *edited for spoilers.* Also, there were one too many cheap shots in there directed at Christians that I did not think were necessary to the story or fair. In the interest of full disclosure, I am biased since I am a Christian. However, I will be the first to admit our body is far from perfect. Still, most of what Pullman said about the church is really about his version of the church, and not how it actually is.
That being said, this series is fantastic. The characters are great and the action is non-stop. I finished all three books in three days, and enjoyed every second of it. I will definitely be recommending these books to my friends, particularly my Christian ones. There is nothing in here that would really offend them. The claims made are too far-fetched to be offensive.
