A great book about the other side of World War II. There are so many books written about the Holocaust, that sometimes I think we forget that the war affected anyone else. This story highlights oppression in Korea and is a great lesson in propaganda, national pride, family loyalty, and honor. A real eye-opener that is age-appropriate for kids (age 10-14?)

With her parents and sources for this book, it rings very true for the time, place and politics of Japanese-occupied Korea. Told well from the point of view of an child. The comfort women are hinted at, but are present as well as other forms of grinding down of the normal human relations.

Great insight into Korean life during World War II and to the seldom-told story of their suffering at the hands of the Japanese.

This book takes place in Korea during WWII and the Japanese occupation. Great for any WWII Unit.

Although only historical fiction, this story tells a chilling and, sadly believable, history of a Korean family during World War II. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is unaware of the atrocities committed against the Koreans by the Japanese during WWII.

Great Book! It is a story of a Korean family during the occupation of Japan during WWII. The story is told by both the brother and sister in the family. My kids loved it.
