Don't bother - not necessary - its a prequel and not very good - the other 3 City of Ember series are great. This is the prequel - not worth the time - ada nothing to the main story. Didn't like this one - was a prequel and was anticlimatic.

I thought this book was useless to the series. I wanted to know more about the lives of Doon and Lina. This book was a disapointment.

it was interresing to see before ember, but man, I felt so cheated by this book. Why is it that in the middle of the series, she puts the prequel?? I was already not that impressed by the 2nd book, but this was like the last straw. I dont get it?? what hapened? the first book was great, simple, well structured, and really cool. I think she should have stopped there.(57)

This prequel is not quite as good as the first two books of Ember, and with essentially no character overlap. Another awesome and timely moral for young readers though. Where fear of war and terror reigns, the adults surrounding the young protagonists revert to intolerance and oppression. In the end the youths (Nickie and Grover) show better judgement.

I liked it--but all my tweenage and older co-readers didn't. These kids come from a gift-bag culture that expects everything to be nice and neat in the end. I like to tear into a package slapped together with scotch tape and the funny papers and see what I get. The Prophet is--to me--quite something, though not at all what I expected.

Nice series for older kids/younger teenagers. I enjoyed the first two books and have the 4th on my nighttable, waiting patiently.

My least favorite of the Ember series...there wasn't the creativity that I loved about the first book.
