Of course I saw the TV series first, that’s how I do it. Watch first, and then read.

As others have commented it is pretty much the same, the first book and the first season that is. If I should describe the difference I would say the book is more “concentrated” than the TV series. In the TV series you had several different storylines; Jason’s, Tara’s and Lafayette’s, to mention some. In the book, you only have Sookie’s. It makes it cleaner, easier and more focused. I liked that!
In the book you also got a lot more thoughts and feelings from Sookie, as it is written in a first person point of view. If there’s something I like, it’s feelings. And since you’re inside her head, you get a lot more mind reading. The vampires, how they work and thoughts around that subject are more prominent in the book, and so is the sex. Basically; the book has a lot more of the things I like!
I do miss some from the TV series, and there are parts I don’t like as well, but overall I like this book. Not better than the TV series, not less than, just equally much. The TV series got me hooked, and so did this book.
And even though I can’t say the language is superb, it’s a lot better than the language in Twilight at least! It may not be great literature, but it’s entertaining as hell!
