What happens when the IT department meets Cthulhu? You get one amazing story like this one. Charles Stross is truly gifted with bringing in elements of the occult and those of everyday business as it revolves around IT. The situations are dead on (no pun intended) and the resolutions are nothing short of pure entertainment. I would recommend this book for anyone that is an IT professional.

Well done early novel from Stross, excellent blend of Lovecraft inspired horror, near future SF, and information technology.

The Office meets Lovecraft. The underpaid, underappreciated Bob Howard's job involves battling both supernatural horrors and bureaucratic shenanigans... but the question is, which of the two is worse?

A novel combination of Lovecraftian horror, Clancy:ish high-tech fascination, and Robert Ludlum's masterful conspiracies. The combination works perfectly for me, but will probably not cater to everyone.Give it a try though; highly recommended.

An interesting enough read, but didn't meet my expectations. From the blurb, I expected a more humourous depiction of Bob's job: one where meetings and office work take up far more time than the saving the world business. As it happened, it was just a little adventure story. The references were cute and the setting was interesting; pity it didn't keep up the mood of the first few pages.

Amazing!

An enjoyable read, with a strange mix of magik and sci-fi which really made me laugh in parts of the book. Maybe because I also do tech support some of his comments about users really struck home :DThankyou Mr Stross! :D

This occult horror/suspense book with a dash of dark humour was great. A wonderful read for anyone who gets the genre and who has a sense of humour.
