The third installment, it lives up to the first two books. If one were to reflect on all of the ideas that Herbert presents in his "fiction", it could, figuratively speaking, blow one's mind. I mean, in this book, Herbert has essentially presented a theory of demonic possession, which I could see as actually being plausible. In each human being, the whole history of mankind's evolution is...more

Arabs, Environmentalists and evil corporations, oh my! I love the dune books because they are oh-so-pertinent to our news these days, and also because they all turn out to have surprising and unexpected twists of plot. but... the bulk of the book is veeeeeeery slow. This book started at a similar pace to the previous book, Dune Messiah, with a very political plot and can seem to drag a bit, but around midway through the book things changed pace and the book became increasingly like the first book. Many people give up during the third book, shortly before this point, but if you reach it you will probably end up reading the whole series.

I don't even know if I can say I read this because some parts were soooo boring that I just felt like Herbert had lost his marbles and was basically rambling on in his senile old age. He might as well have been talking about the consistency of his bowel movements and his drab sex life and i would've been slightly more interested.
