Without doubt, this is the best book of the Dune sequence. It is epic in scope, more about the complete and total abuse of power, and how one person holds the entire fate of the universe in his hands. I especially like the way the various factions come cap-in-hand to Leto every 10 years to gain their allotment of spice. It starts some crucial developments with the fleshing out of the Tleilaxu...more

Contrary to most opinions, this is actually my favorite book in the Dune series aside from the original. It doesn't attempt the impossible feat of outdoing Herbert's Magnum Opus, but instead expands on the themes and ideas that have been present throughout all of the novels. If you're looking for a plot as rich as Dune's, expect to be disappointed. Instead, God Emperor provides poignant...more

Probably the best book in the series. It is an eye opener to a lot of topics, not to mention this is the central focus of the Dune series. This is probably the most abstract and rambling of the Dune books. It is also the most intriguing, but probably because you dont understand it as much as you would like to. All said, you must give it to Frank that Leto II is the most complicated character of them all, and probably the most well-developed. Read this book just for that, and you have your money's worth!

Books 1-3 form a great package. It can really end there. I have lots of trouble relating (or wanting to relate) to any of the characters in this book. It's taking forever to read and really lacks the pace and complexities (in plots and characters) of the other books. I'm just determined to finish the series and so I trudge on!
