As I traversed Gibson's world and the propositions his work makes, it became more and more clear to me that "The Matrix" movie amounts to a shallow, high budget, Hollywood imitation. As I traversed Gibson's world and the propositions his work makes, it became more and more clear to me that "The Matrix" movie amounts to a shallow, high budget, Hollywood imitation. It simply apes the behaviour of a truly advanced and artfully crafted epic tale. But that is really the sad state of mass entertainment media. I've always wanted to see a film depiction of Neurmancer and the Foundation series but the process so frought with peril that I'm happy to wait years more if some true artist will due the work justice.   hide

I bought this in 1984 and loved it. Just re-read it in June 2009 and understand that it was been optioned for a film. Should be interesting. This was like.. This was a very creative book that started a whole genre of science fiction. However, after reading dozens of cyberpunk books, I always feel let down at the end. These authors seem to insist on an amoral main character, which is much less interesting than the immoral film noir lead. The one exception is "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson, which I loved.
