Modern take on vampirism. An American doctor and priest join forces to rescue a Romanian infant who holds the cure to AIDS. Their rescue plunges them into a century old family who know all about blood-drinking. Stunning and intelligent.

For a Vampire book this was ok...

Yet another book about vampires that I read in high school. These children in a Romanian orphanage have a blood disorder that causes them to fiend blood. More realistic and makes me feel better about the world I live in.

Not his best; a little like Carrion Comfort but the characters don't come alive as much

one of the best vampire books i've read.

Creepy Romanian setting? Check. Historical Dracula flashbacks? Check. Potential scientific explanation for vampirism and tie-in to the AIDS epidemic? Check again. And yet, still, boring. Who knew it was possible? I'm a fan of Simmons work, but it was a serious effort to finish this one. His writing skills are in evidence here, but there's, ahem, no soul to the whole thing.
