This one completely bowled me over. Its deeply touching, moving and got me tears at different instances all over it. Nicholas Sparks (though its my first of him) dealt with the subject very aptly and with such a touch that its propelling me to read others of him. Deeply, deeply touched by the story of John & Savannah. He says what truly LOVE is... Loved it to the core... Saying again, very very...more

I recently reread this book in anticipation of the movie (which I have not yet seen). It is a lovely story about love between a father and son and a boy and the love of his life - it was absolutely heartwrenching and I would read it again and again. You never know how someone you love truly feels... but when they surprise you, it can take your breath away.

This was a good book, but so unlike the movie. It's hard to tell sometimes which one is better. Nicholas Sparks is a excellent writer and always great to read. It's a beautiful love story, but the bestest change between the book and the movie is that that in the movie the love story was more between a father and a son where this love story is the traditional love story. He loved her even when she...more

Another reason to love Nicolas Sparks. He writes contemporary love stories like no one else. I've unknowingly become a huge fan, having first discovered the movie adaptions of a Walk to Remember and the Notebook before reading his books. Dear John in particular is an excellent story of people who are seemingly normal and ordinary. But in their own unique way, are damaged. It is their connection...more

it's heartbreakingly beautiful..the story entails that love meant that you care for another person's happiness, more than your own, no matter how painful your choice maybe.. .John was noble, Tim was kind, John's father was adorable, and Samatha.. .i don't really get her,,,,if she really loves John enough, she should have waited for him.. .what is two years?but as what she had said,, ,she didn't...more

Well, I broke down and read a Nicholas Sparks' book. I didn't have high expectations, and this book confirmed why. His writing leaves little to be desired. I often felt as if I was reading from a third grade basal. It was cookie cutter and predictable, however, I did enjoy some of the plot and the second half was much better than the first half. This is one case where I think the movie might...more

This book was incedible! Although i chose the wrong time to read this particular book. Because my now fiance was in the National Guard and away at his two weeks Annual training. It hit a little close to home. But it was a great book and just like all of them i had to keep a box of tissue with me because i cried. Maybe a little more because my man was away with the army and i was missing him.

Dear John of Mr Sparks is a pleasant reading. I have the bad habit of reading books after the inspired movie comes out - and cause of that I always feel the reading insanely good. But Dear John made me drop a few tears, what I consider super good... and by the end of it I just couldn't put it down. And the book`s end is more dignified than the movie`s end. So if you are in love... read it!
