For all my fellow romantics out there, "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks is a must read. I believe all of us, man or woman, dream of having the kind of love in our lives as in this love story. This short novel tells the story of Noah and Allie and the love they shared that could not be shattered.

more For all my fellow romantics out there, "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks is a must read. I believe all of us, man or woman, dream of having the kind of love in our lives as in this love story. This short novel tells the story of Noah and Allie and the love they shared that could not be shattered.
The book begins with Noah as an old man describing his routine as he awaits to visit someone to read to them from his notebook that holds a story from his life. The next chapter jumps to when Noah is a young man, recently home from fighting in WWII, at his newly refurbished house in North Carolina. I have yet to come across another author that romanticizes about the South, especially North Carolina, as much as Nicholas Sparks. In every story I have read there is always a lovely house with a front proch to sit out on on summer nights with a glass of sweet tea while listening to crickets and watching fireflys dance in the yard. But I digress.... While Noah is sitting on his lovely front porch thinking about the girl he met as a teenager and has always loved, who should come up his driveway? Yup, you guessed it, Allie, the girl he has always loved.
Allie is engaged to be married to another man- big city, lawyer type guy, nothing like Noah- but feels something is missing in her life. So she decides to take a trip back to her hometown of New Bern and finds Noah. Through a lot of sexual tension and kind words, Noah and Allie can't help falling in love with each other again. This section of the book comes down to Allie's fiance coming down to New Bern where she has to choose either him, who has always been good to her, or Noah, the man she has always loved and awakens new feelings within her.
The story then jumps back to Noah as an old man, closing his notebook as he finishes reading the story. You find out that he is now 80 years old and is living in a nursing home with his wife, but they have to sleep in separate rooms. It's hard to go into this section of the book without giving much away, but all I can say is that in the end love conquers all.
