My favourite book. Have read it four times. Highly recommended. Read the New York Times Article fist by Susan Olean. And then watch the movie after you have read the book "Adaptation" by Spike Jones.

I never knew Orchids could be so fascinating, but the book overall makes a statement as to what people are willing to do for the sake of passion. Even if those things are "against the law"----a true story, that could be loaded with metaphors if you'd like it to be.

Drove through Homestead the other day and couldn't stop thinking about this book. We ended up pulling into an orchid seller's greenhouse. It was amazing to see all of the orchids - the colors, shapes and sizes.

I loved this book for the way it combines history and storytelling, and how it examines passion. I have had quite a few hobbies that I threw myself into and I really enjoyed reading about the passion people feel towards orchids. It's rich with metaphor and give you a lot to think about. It's one book I feel compelled and delighted to reread.

Surprising this nonfiction book read like a fiction, plus historical facts how the obsession of orchids started. Pretty deadly!

Florida is a whack place! And this book proves why. Meant to be a magazine article about Orchid mania, it instead becomes scrambled history of crazy characters that really has no linear story line. The movie was cursed with the same problem, (Adaptation) and became a story about the story much like tis book becomes. Glorious confusion and anarchy.

I ended up reading this after studying the movie "Adaptation." Kauffman was right, this was a difficult book to adapt.
