The Chosen: A Novel (Ballantine Reader's Circle)

Still a timely tale despite the years. This book has truly help up and still inspires us to chose our friends based on interests as opposed to religion/politics/whatever other labels we might use.

Great Jewish Literature!

One of my all time favorites

Very interesting and enjoyable book. It made for a great book clulb discussion.

In terms of history, character development, stories about fathers and sons, the whole she-bang, this was a fantastic book. I wasn't ready for it to end as quickly as it did. But I see other reviewers talking about a sequel, so now I have to look for it. What an amazing book!

Books rarely make me cry. This one did.

"He taught them the purpose of man is to make his life holy - every aspect of his life: eating, drinking, praying, sleeping. God is everywhere, he told them and if it seems at times that He is hidden from us, it is only because we have not yet learned to seek him correctly." p. 103

Its literary merits are subsumed by the author's ideological agenda. Was interesting to learn about Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish beliefs and practices, though.
