I quite agree with other reviews that this is one of the King's most horrifying books. I quite agree with other reviews that this is one of the King's most horrifying books. After reading several books by Stephen King, I also suppose that Annie Wilkes is also the most evil and horrifying villain of all, although the only female villain in King's novels. However, I think the movie adaptation of this book is a little bit better; less horrifying but much more clever. At least Paul Sheldon in the movie is not a crybaby who can't do anything to avoid being tortured and Annie seems a little bit more human-like, since she can occasionally be good and can be fooled. Watching them trick each other throughout the whole story is one of the most entertaining experience. Overall, this book is worth reading, but strongly not recommended for sensitive persons.   hide

Aaargh! That was all I could say when I was reading this book. Probably one of the most intense, creepy and seriously tense book I have read, where at point I would literally gasp for breath or start sweating (of course I was kid when I read it first!) Paul Sheldon, the famous novelist using Misery as his central character in a series of novels, is held captive by his number one fan Annie, who does all she can to force him to re-write the final book in the series. Tension, drama, some humor and chills ensue the rest of the book as he seeks to escape. A fabulous movie version of this book.    hide

This is Stephen King's best novel. This is a truly terrifying experence only because this could happen to someone and has probably happened to someone. The story starts out as a author named Paul Sheldon is finished his new book in his series of books called "Misery". He is at the hotel(which is a ritual of his) and gets into a bad accident due to a snow storm. Lucky, a nurse picks him up and takes him back to here house. Her name is Annie Wilkes. She seems nice enough as she takes care of Mr Sheldon and she claims to him that shes his number one fan. Not only is she his number one fan, but she is a complete pyschopath who will never let her favorite author out of her clutches. This novel is 100% scary. It is ridden with chills but you absolutly cannot put the book down. (Spoiler) The best part is when it is his birthday. She brings him a cake and ontop of the cake is one of his fingers.   hide
