The Resort

Way too typical, I couldn't finnish it. Stupid book; weird. Lucky for me it comes with a money back guarantee. Oh, wait-Guarantee is expired...

The first book I have read by Bentley Little and it won't be my last. Takes a basic idea (family on vacation in the Arizona desert) and throws some horror in (strangely run resort with unusual happenings and no contact with outside world). I enjoyed the book overall, with the exception of the ending which was a letdown.

I just finished this last night, I think Little is my favorite author right now. I love his disturbing twisted ideas & although the ending seemed very rushed & not put together right I couldn't put the book down. I loved it!

I like how the horror starts off being introduced subtly just by little signs of the absurd (naked obese man in gym, abrupt rudeness by hotel staff which you can imagine yourself doubting your own ears if it really did happen to you, just seeing a grotesque figure with an enlarged child's head on an impossibly long neck, and so on). I like how the horror starts off being introduced subtly just by little signs of the absurd (naked obese man in gym, abrupt rudeness by hotel staff which you can imagine yourself doubting your own ears if it really did happen to you, just seeing a grotesque figure with an enlarged child's head on an impossibly long neck, and so on). It's nice for a change that horror isn't an all-out monster fest but an accumulation of little nagging things that, on their own, one can quite often shrug off. Of course, as all horror plots go, at the end there has to be a monster-fest-climax, and that's fine. But I appreciate most the build-up before the climax. I can see this made into a movie though I'm not sure how most audiences will take it as a movie.   hide

Scarier than I thought it would be. Bentley Little is where King was in the 70s. He really goes places you don't want to go.

I just finished this book, and wow, I was surprised. I discovered the author ironically enough reading an interview with Stephen King. I say ironic because Bentley Little writes almost exactly like King. The Resort is a great page turner. It is like a mix of The Shining meets Desperation. A family goes to a exclusive resort in the desert and weird strange things begin to happen, ultimately leading to a lot of sick and twisted deaths. Nothing too graphic, but enough to make you say ill. And the ending was a surprise, something I don't usually get from most authors.   hide

Total waste of time. Alot of extra characters/plot lines that seem to have little to do with the plot of the book...the ending was retarded.

If you like twisted fucked up books, this is a good one.
