The Dresden File books just get darker and darker, but still they're fairly written. Sometimes the timing / plotting seems improbably but with magic anything may be possible. This adventure pits Harry against necromancers & zombies. Even though he's supposed to be doing something alone he still manages to get assistance and some unlikely allies. I wouldn't recommend this book to everyone...i still give it a good 4 stars out of 5, but the subject matter is dark. The further along his books get the darker they are becoming. I like where he is Going with it all, but wow does it get intense. This one really reveals some interesting stuff about Bob the Skull. Have fun! Ooooof Dark even for a Dresden novel...but oh so good. His take on...more

In Dead Beat, Harry Dresden, Chicago's only consulting wizard, is hired by Mavra, the Black Court vampire who nearly killed him several times, to find the Word of Kemmler--whatever that is. No such luck, Marva is alive and she wants the holy grail to zombies. A spellbook written by a madman, and if she doesn't get it Murphy's toast. Harry will call on every trick he can get, fighting warlocks, zombies and for once he will wind up on the same side as...more
