This is a must read for anyone who wants to explore every single aspect of humanity, regardless of time or place. How Milton managed to imagine the War in Heaven, the Creation, and the Fall of Adam in such great detail, as well as tell the story of Christ's temptation in the wilderness, all the while incorporating all of man's intellect from Greece to Great Britain (Milton's day) so flawlessly, I will perhaps never know. If you can deal with some wishy-washy theology and some strange syntax, it's an amazing book

Amazing, but I need to set aside blocks of an hour each time I want to read even a little! It's so dense.
